Generally speaking, no. When do I start paying for MN Paid Leave? Each employee (and the employer) pays into MN Paid Leave starting in January 2026. Payment is not dependent on usage. If I take intermittent leave, does each intermittent day count as a week against my overall available time? For intermittent leave, each day (or hours) equals that day (or hours). It does not convert to a full week. Do part-time employees qualify for MN Paid Leave? Yes Does GCED approve a MN Paid Leave request? No Can I estimate my MN Paid Leave paycheck? Yes - at least an approximation, here: https://pl.mn.gov/resources/calculators/estimate-your-payments What are the steps to submit a leave request? Approve through district first? Form first? The best option is to call MetLife directly at 1-800-300-4296. If I don't have insurance through MetLife/GCED, is MNPL still available to me? Yes, it is available to every employee, regardless of insurance status with GCED. Does GCED provide a retirement match? Yes, each employee group has a GCED match available to them. Please see your employee group contract for more information. When an employee retires, what happens to any unused GCED Paid Leave? There is no currently language in any GCED Agreement/Conditions for this. The employee is eligible for the normal end of year payout options. What happens with any unused Sick Leave and/or unused Personal Days at the end of the school year? Answer 1 Teachers with 17 days or more of accumulated Sick Leave have the right to sell these days back to GCED for the teacher's 403(b) or HSA. Answer 2 Staff can roll over unused Sick Leave into their next school year's Sick Leave. Answer 3 Paraprofessionals and Teachers can roll over unused Personal Days into the next school year, for a maximum total of 5 Personal Days. What happens if I receive a subpoena? Subpoena's are addressed in GCED Board Policy #408. There is a distinction of leave options between a subpoena involving employment and one involving personal life.

    5RiversOnline provides high school students with an online education that opens doors for their future. Our curriculum is designed for students to work at their own pace, granting them flexibility and consistency around their schedule. 5RO students are able to enroll either part-time or full-time and can complete PESO courses while in high school. Enrollment is FREE for Minnesota residents. Flexible Learning, Strong Foundations Our 5RO program for 7-12 learners features: Curriculum aligned to MN standards. MN licensed teachers. Learners are expected to log in to each class with workday flexibility. Attendance is based on log in and work completion. Teachers may schedule synchronous 1:1, or small group sessions to advance the learning progression. 5RiversOnline curriculum is designed for students to work at their own pace, granting them flexibility and consistency around their schedule. 5RO students are able to enroll either part-time or full-time and can complete PESO courses while in high school.     Are we open for enrollment? Yes, Families across Minnesota may enroll in 5RiversOnline at any time. Enroll today! Is there a cost to enroll? No, 5RiversOnline is open to all residents across Minnesota, free of charge. There is no tuition for these learners. Are devices provided? Learners in grades K-12 will use a Chromebook. Devices will be provided to all learners K-6 enrolled in 5RiversOnline. Learners in grades 7-12 must be residents of Goodhue County to receive a device. Information about how you will receive your device will be provided upon completion of registration and selection of courses (for secondary learners). How experienced are your teachers? 5RiversOnline is staffed by experienced teachers who have been hired and trained by our districts. We maintain high expectations for our teachers. They are knowledgeable and skilled at teaching learners in person and in online classrooms. How is 5RO different from other online schools? 5RiversOnline is a collaborative partnership with six districts - Cannon Falls, Goodhue, Kenyon-Wanamingo, Lake City, Red Wing, and Zumbrota Mazeppa. We have a 95%+ graduation rate, and our learners' academic achievement routinely exceeds state averages. Each of our districts provide excellent education and we are bringing that excellence to any of their learners who want an online experience. At the elementary level, we provide more live time with a teacher than other online programs. Teachers launch lessons live with learners beginning with a morning meeting, have daily check-ins, and meet with learners throughout the school day. Specialist teachers provide direct instruction in physical education, music, and art. Our secondary teachers are deep content experts, hired and trained by our schools, who use their expertise to enhance the online curriculum. They are skilled at building relationships with learners and ensure that parents/guardians are involved to support their child's learning. At all levels, we provide support services including social workers, psychologists, English language learning, special education, and other services traditionally available at physical school buildings.     5Rivers Online Grades K-6 includes daily synchronous learning with teacher and learner interaction along with peer-to-peer interaction. Enrollment is FREE to Minnesota Residents.   Structured Learning, Supported Success. Our 5RO program for K-6 learners features: Curriculum aligned to MN standards. MN licensed teachers. Daily synchronous learning with teacher and learner interaction along with peer-to-peer interaction. Learners are expected to complete assigned asynchronous daily learning activities. Learners may need to log in for interventions in reading and/or math as needed. K-6 LEARNERS 5RO Grades K-6 includes daily synchronous learning with a teacher and learner interaction along with peer-to-peer interaction. Enrollment is FREE to Minnesota residents and is also an ideal option for families who homeschool. Academics We use McGraw-Hill curriculum for our Math Program and Literacy Program. Set alarms for 3 minutes before each Google Meet. Show up for meetings on time. Attend ALL daily meetings for the entire meeting. Stay on the meeting until the teacher dismisses students. Head and shoulders must be in the camera to be counted present. Be Respectful. As an active learner: Participate. Use kind words and actions. Be dressed appropriately. Raise your hand before sharing. Use all Google Meet tools (chat, camera, microphone, emojis) appropriately. Stay on topic. Have a positive attitude about school. Learning Expectations: Adult Support Be Responsible. As your child’s learning coach: Set routine expectations at home for your child. Remind your child that school hours (8:00 a.m.-2:10 p.m.) are for school work. Make sure your child is at meetings with head and shoulders in the camera for attendance. Make sure your child has all school materials ready before the school day. Check for messages/emails from the teachers daily. Contact your child’s teacher and the office when you know of a planned absence. Regularly check in with your child about work progress. Look at Google Classroom for current and missing assignments. Ensure your child completes work and participates independently. Be Respectful. As your child’s learning coach: Provide a quiet learning environment free from distractions. Teachers will respond to parent contact within 24 hours. Model a positive attitude about school.   • Governance | GCED

    The GCED Joint Powers Agreement originally established in 1990 with the purpose of increasing education opportunities for pupils by increasing cooperation and coordination among member school districts, now includes Cannon Falls, Goodhue, Kenyon-Wanamingo, Lake City, Red Wing, and Zumbrota-Mazeppa as members. GCED was formed through school board action by Cannon Falls, Goodhue, Mazeppa, Red Wing and Zumbrota. Who do we serve? All students of member districts are eligible to receive services provided by or through GCED. As the State Approved Alternative Program (SAAP) for the county. Our SAAP programs, run in the member districts, include targeted services, credit recovery, and alternative learning centers at the middle and high school levels. These programs serve at-risk students grades K-12. As the special education local education agency for services provided to member districts, we are charged with providing special education leadership, programming, staffing and finance oversight. Our special education programs serve students, birth through age 21. As the lead agency for the county Title III Consortium, GCED provides English Language Learner program oversight and grant submissions. Lastly, the GCED is the State Approved Online Learning Provider in the county. 5RiversOnline is open for supplemental or comprehensive K-12 services. GCED is organized under Minnesota statute 122.91 "for the purpose of increasing educational opportunities for learners by increasing cooperation and coordination among schools and family agencies in Goodhue County and post-secondary institutions." The GCED School Board is composed of one representative from each member district, who is a member of and appointed by that member district board. District Committees Advisory Committees Advisory Committees are established by GCED. The district uses a variety of working committees to provide broad-based input in areas determined by GCED. Business and Education Partnership of Goodhue County The Business and Education Partnership of Goodhue County provides support services to member school districts that assist in addressing school-to-work issues such as post secondary education, special population, gender equity, and community/ business/industry school relationships. Region 10 Interagency Early Intervention Committee The Region 10 Interagency Early Intervention Committee is a state-mandated committee representing local, county, state, and federally funded agencies and parents of infants and young children whose purpose is to collaborate to assure services and support to families with children who have critical health, developmental, respite advocacy or financial resource needs from birth. Region 10 Community Transition Interagency Committee The Region 10 Community Transition Interagency Committee is a state-mandated committee representing local, county, state and federal agencies working together to assure students with special education and family needs are receiving transition planning and preparation to community, employment, post secondary education and living after graduation from high school. Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) The Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) is a collaborative forum where parents of children receiving special education and the district can work together for continuous improvement of special education services.
